The state has some of the premier educational institutes like Atal Behari Vajpayee Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management (Gwalior), Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (Indore), Indian Institute of Management (Indore), Jiwaji University (Gwalior),
Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (Gwalior), Madhya Pradesh Bhoj Open University (Bhopal), Maharshi Panini Sanskrit University (Ujjain), Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication (Bhopal), Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (Bhopal), National Law Institute University (Bhopal), Vikram University (Ujjain) among others.
These universities have been playing a greater role for imparting quality of education for the students in the state. They are putting more emphasis on the subjects like bio technology, information technology, mass media studies and others.
Madhya Pradesh has some of the well known schools like Little Angels High School, Scindia School, Good Shepherd Convent, Karadia School, The Sanskaar Valley School, etc.
The educational setup of the state is well developed as per various reports. Over one third of the population of the state is educated as there are 12 dedicated state universities. The Government of Madhya Pradesh has been taking various steps to prevent the drop outs at school level.
School education in the state has been divided into three groups. They are primary, middle and high school education. Ujjain and Sagar have some of the best schools in the western part of the country.
The state government is trying to provide better infrastructure for the development of the education in the state. Information Technology has been introduced as a subject at school syllabus itself considering its importance.
Madhya Pradesh has the literacy rate of 70.6 % as per the figures of census 2011.
