Punjab Elections 2019

The history of Punjab is as old as the history of the Indian Civilization. Elections for the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab will be held on May 19. Counting of votes will be on May 23.

The three major political parties are Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress. Congress and its allies are the most successful parties in the political history of Punjab. They emerged successful several times for the past decades (2009, 2004, 1999, 1991, 1984, 1980). Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) was also successful along with its alliance partner BJP. The party has won several seats in the past (2014, 204, 1998, 1996, 1989). In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the SAD won four out of the 10 seats it contested, while the BJP won two out of the three. In 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, BJP will be fighting in 3 seats while its traditional ally SAD will contest in 10 Lok Sabha seats. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will fight the polls with the Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali), a breakaway faction of the SAD.
