Elections 2019

Lok Sabha (General elections) 2019 will be the biggest election of the year. It will be held in April or May 2019 to constitute the 17th Lok Sabha. Along with the general elections, the assembly elections of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim will be tentatively held simultaneously. When dealing with Lok Sabha elections, several opinion polls have predicted a decline in seats for the ruling NDA and the BJP and an increase for the UPA and the Congress. Based on the alliance, the Congress could be back in power.

But other opinion polls predict that the NDA will be back in power with 281 seats, nine seats ahead of the half-way mark in the 543-member Lok Sabha. Several TV channel opinion polls, voice in favour of BJP and also predict that despite winning the election, the saffron party's seats would be less. But will increase its vote share from 31.34 per cent to 36 per cent. The Congress, on the other hand, will increase its seat tally from the 44 it won in 2014 to 83 seats, while its vote share will go up from 19.52 to 31 per cent.

Once again, many political experts feel that the general elections 2019 will not be fought on the basis of economic performance, jobs or growth in personal income, but power to mobilise people along with caste and religious sentiments.
