Yercaud

With an altitude of 1,515 m metres, a pleasant climate throughout the year, rolling hills with plantations of coffee, cardamom and black pepper, dense forests of sandalwood, teak and silver oak, orchards of oranges, bananas, guava, pears and jackfruit, relics of the colonial era and an unhurried pace of life, it's not without reason that the tourists flock to the quiet hill station of Yercaud, 32 km from Salem.

Located on the Shevaroy hills of the Eastern Ghats in the Salem district of Tamil Nadu, Yercaud, meaning " Lake Forest,' is noted for its secluded charm and other places for attractions including Shevaroyan temple, the Lake, Lady's Seat, Pagoda Point, Killiyur Falls, Arthur's Seat and Kaveri Peak.

Yercaud Lake

The star attraction of Yercaud, this natural lake is surrounded by green wooded tress and gardens which have earned it the sobriquet ‘Emerald Lake’. Baoting facilities are available. Adjacent to the lake the Anna Park is a beautiful garden favourite with the children.

Lady's Seat

From the Lady's Seat, you can have a beautiful spectacle of the several hairpin bends along the winding ghat road leading to Yercaud. The view of the Salem city from here at night is spectacular when the city lights turn into thousands of twinkling jewels. Gent’s Seat and Children’s Seat nearby are other vantage points which offer panoramic view of the plains and the city of Salem.

The Servaroyan Temple

Located atop the Servaroyan hills, the narrow cave houses the idols of Lord Servarayan and Goddess Kaveri. Six km from the Yercaud town, the shrine attracts devotees in large numbers during the annual festival in May. From this point, one can have a stunning view off the countryside from here.

Killiyur Falls

Created by the descent of the overflowing waters of the Yercaud Lake plunging into the Killiyur valley, the Killiyur Falls are feats for eyes. A trek through dense forest from the Yercaud lake to the bottom of the Killiyur falls, which usually takes an hour, will give the trekkers an enthralling experience. It is the most popular of the waterfalls of Yercaud.

Pagoda Point

Also called Pyramid Point, the Pagoda Point is located on the eastern side of the Yercaud hills. The place is home to temple dedicated to Rama. From this point one can have a spectacular view of Ayothiapattinam and Attur.

The Retreat, The Montfort School, Orchidarium Silk Farm Tipperary View Point and White Elephant Tooth are other places of attractions in and around Yercaud.

Air: The nearest airport is at Trichy which is 170 km away respectively from Yercaud.

Rail: The nearest railhead is Salem which is 36 km from the hill station.

Road: Yercaud is connected by good motrable road with different cites in South India. Major cities near Yercaud connected with it are Salem, Bangalore (237 km), Mysore (285 km) , Chennai (352 km) and Cochin (373 km). Buses ply from Salem to Yearcaud at frequent intervals.
