Chennai has a tropical climate. The city lies on the coast which prevents extreme variation in the temperature. The weather is hot and humid, most of the year. April and May are the hottest month of the year.
Monsoon arrives at the beginning of the Northeast Monsoon Winds. It receives moderate rainfall of about 1,300 mm all over the year. It is necessary to keep an umbrella, as we need it anytime. The winters are short lived which will be during the months of November to February. During winter season Chennai receives some rainfall.
