Banerjee walks 10 km to observe one year of fall of Marxist rule
Marking the anniversary of the end of 34-year-old Marxist rule in the state, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, flanked by her supporters, took out a march and claimed that her government had fulfilled most of the poll promises.
Ms Banerjee, who walked for two hours non-stop, was accompanied by Railway Minister Mukul Roy and a large number of supporters and party workers in a 10-km procession which started from the busy Hazra crossing in south Kolkata to Muslim-dominated Razabazar in the eastern part of the city.
SC issues notice to centre, state on Kalighat Temple entry
The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the Centre and the West Bengal government on a petition seeking that devotees be permitted to enter the sanctum sanctorum of the Kolkata-based Kalighat temple to pay obeisance to the presiding deity.
High Court on April 20 had completely banned the entry of devotees, including VVIPs and VIPs in the sanctum sanctorum and allowed only priests in. Councel for the Kalighat Temple Committee, Rana Mukherjee, told the court that the ban on the entry of devotees was creating a law and order problem.
Mamta Banerjee warning for health department staff
Health department employees must take their job more seriously and make sure that files are signed and moved faster, said chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
Files shouldn't be left pending for it could cost a life, she said. "I make sure that my files are signed regularly and on time. You should be doing the same for you are dealing with people's lives. Remember that a delay on your part can cost a life. she reminded health department officials.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee came down heavily on the criticism directed at her on social networking sites. "Amake onek Facebook dekhiyechhen, ebar amader palaIe have had enough of Facebook, not it's our turn)," she said.
