Climate

Nagaland experiences a monsoon climate with high humidity levels throughout the year. The state receives annual rainfall ranging between 1,800 and 2,500 millimeters (70–100 inches), primarily from May to September. Temperatures vary widely, with summer temperatures ranging from 21 to 40°C (70 to 104°F), while winter temperatures generally do not fall below 4°C (39°F), though frost is common at higher elevations. Summers are short, lasting only a few months, with temperatures ranging between 16 and 31°C (61 to 88°F). Winters arrive early, bringing cold and dry conditions, especially in certain regions, with a maximum average winter temperature of 24°C (75°F). Additionally, strong northwest winds sweep across the state during February and March.
