One of the four assembly segments located in the Khagaria district of Bihar, Parbatta assembly constituency is currently being represented by Ramanand Prsad Singh who won the seat for the Janata Dal (United) by defeating his nearest the Lok Janashakti Party (LJP) rival Suheli Mehta by a massive margin of 56,990 votes in a byepoll held on 21st August in 2014, necessitated due to the resignation of sitting Rashtriya Janata Dal MLA Samrat Chaudhury from the seat to become JD(U) MLC. Samrat Chaudhury is the son of prominent Bihar politician Shakuni Choudhary
Out of the ten assembly seats that went to the polls in the bye-elections which took place after the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won four whereas the RJD and the JD (U) was victorious on 3 and 2 seats respectively. The Congress won one seats. It is pertinent to note that the RJD and JD (U) had contested from four constituencies each while the Congress had fielded its candidates in two seats. The BJP had contested nine seats while its alliance partner the LJP contested Parbatta.
In the last general assembly elections to the Bihar legislative assembly in 2010 Parbatta was won by Samrat Chaudhury alias Rakesh Kumar who had defeated Ramanand Prasad Singh, then the JD(U) sitting MLA, by a narrow margin of 808 votes. In that election, while 60428 voters were polled in favour of Samrat Chaudhury, Ramanand Prsad Singh had received 59620 votes and was remotely followed by Naresh Pd. Badal who had secured 10385 votes.
Earlier Ramanand Prsad Singh had been elected from Parbatta assembly seat in both the elections in 2005. It is pertinent to note that Bihar went to the assembly polls twice in 2005 because the earlier one held in February threw hung assembly necessitating the holding of the second assembly polls in the month of November of the same year.
Parbatta is one of the six assembly constituencies that combine to form the parliamentary constituency of Khagaria which is currently held by Mehboob Ali Kaiser who had defeated Krishna Yadav of the Lalu Prasad's Rahstriya Janata Dal (RJD) 76003 votes in the last general Lok Sabha elections in 2014 which paved the way of the formation of the BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the centre.
Other five assembly segments that are part of Khagaria parliamentary constituency are Alauli, Beldaur, Simri Bakhtiarpur, Hasanpur and Khagaria.
During an election rally in Parbetta (Khagaria district), CM Nitish Kumar warned that BJP may scrap the reservation if it is voted to power. He recalled that the RSS chief has publicly called for review of the reservation policy which the BJP-led coalition at the centre may scrap if NDA gets power in Bihar. However, BJP's candidate Ramanuj Chaudhary is confident of winning the seat and had hit the campaing trail in right earnest.
