Alamnagar assembly constituency consists of Chausa, Puraini and Alamnagar community development blocks and Gopalpur, Rahta Phanhan, Budhma, Nayanagar, Khara, Sahjadpur, Jotaili, Lashkari and Manjora of Udakishunganj CD block. This assembly segment has 2,90,185 electors. of whom 1,51,517 men and 1,38,663 women in this constituency.

Electoral History of Alamnagar Constituency in Bihar

Alamnagar is one of the four assembly constituencies located in the Madhepura district of Bihar. Alamnagar assembly constituency consists of Chausa, Puraini and Alamnagar community development blocks and Gopalpur, Rahta Phanhan, Budhma, Nayanagar, Khara, Sahjadpur, Jotaili, Lashkari and Manjora of Udakishunganj CD block. Alamnagar assembly constituency has 2, 90,185 electors of which, 1, 51,517 are men and 1, 38,663 women.

Alamnagar is one of the four assembly constituencies located in the Madhepura district of Bihar.    Alamnagar had elected Narendra Narayan Yadav of the Janata Dal (united) in the last general assembly elections to Bihar in 2010.

   In that election, Narendra Narayan Yadav, a minister in the Nitish Kumar government, had defeated Lovely Anand, who entered the fray as a Congress nominee, by a massive margin of 42345 votes. while Narendra Narayan Yadav, who has been representing the seat since 1995, polled 64967 votes, Lovely Anand, who had won and lost different elections on the tickets of different parties in Bihar, received 22622 votes and was followed by Shashi Bhushan Singh of the Ram Vilas Paswan led Lok Janashakti Party (LJP) with 21612 votes.

  Lovely Anand, wife of Anand Mohan, who was convicted for murder and is languishing in jail, had won the famed Vaishali Lok Sabha byepoll in 1994 by defeating Kishori Sinha, wife of a former Congress Chief Minister Satyendra Narain Sinha. In 1996, she had won the byepoll to the Nabinagar assembly seat in the Auragabad district by defeating Bhim Kumar Singh of the Janata Dal who later went on to win the seat in 2000 and in the February election in 2005.

  Lovely Anand, who had won the Barh assembly seat in February 2005, unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Sheohar Lok Sabha seat on a Samajwadi Party ticket. Earlier Alamnagar assembly seat was won by Birendra Singh of Alamnagar estate four times in a row (1977, 1980, 1985 and 1990).

  Alamnagar is one of the six assembly constituencies that combine to form the parliamentary constituency of Madhepura which is currently represented by Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav of the RJD who won the seat by defeating the sitting JD (U) MP Sharad Yadav by a margin of 56,209 votes in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

  Other five assembly constituencies that fall under the Madhepura Lok Sabha seat are Bihariganj, Madhepura, Sonbarsha, Saharsa and Mahishi.

Sitting JD(U) MLA Narendra Narayan will take on the challenge from the NDA candidate here. The sitting MLA will have a tough contest as the united NDA candidate will be targeting the youth and women voters, apart from wooing the backward castes, extremely backward castes and Dalits. Alamnagar is represented in the assembly by Narendra N. Yadav of JD (U), who won the seat by bagging 64,967 votes in the 2010 assembly election. He defeated the Congress' Lovely Anand by 42,345 votes. The assembly segment of Alamnagar belongs to the Madhepura Lok Sabha constituency.
