In the coming 2016 assembly polls, Mannadipet assembly seat will witness multi-cornered contest. However, the fight is mainly between the AINRC and the DMK which is supported by the congress. Under the terms of the seat sharing arrangement, Congress and DMK will contest 21 and 9 seats respectively in the Union Territory of Puducherry.
While Deputy Speaker and sitting AINRC MLA T.P.R. Selvame is once again in the fray, the AIADMK has nominated its lone woman contestant, M. Mahadevi from the constituency. R. Saravanan and A.K. Kumar alias Krishnan have entered the electoral field on behalf of the BJP and the DMK respectively.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Mannadipet assembly segment had given a lead of 2621 votes to the AINRC nominee R. Radhakrishnan over his nearest Congress rival and then sitting MP V. Narayanasamy who received 7693 votes in the Mannadipet assembly constituency.
