End Hunger in India Campaign

At least one in five Indian children under the age of five are wasted, which means they have extremely low weight for their height, reflecting acute under-nutrition, according to the Global Hunger Index 2018. The only country with a higher prevalence of child wasting is the war-torn nation of South Sudan. Read more

Thisismyindia.com started the 'End Hunger in India' program in 2010 on its completion of 5 years. In 2020 we will be all of 15 years. We have been supporting and encouraging people to do more everyday. Now the time has come to take this encouragement to the next level. We wish to award some of the people who have worked tirelessly to feed the poor.

We are shorlisting aorganisations and governments for teh award. We would like your help in this. Please nominate and give us some details of the organisation and their work. We will follow up and find them and further highlight their work.

Please volunteer for the campaign and also send us suggestions on the action plan and other things. Write in to webmaster@thisismyindia.com.

We feel in a country where giving alms and feeding the poor is part of its religious culture, this should not be a difficult task. The Sikhs have lungers, the Muslims are asked to feed the poor and zakat is one of the main pillars of Islam and Hindus have all kinds of excuses to feed the poor and the Brahmins.

With growing prosperity many of us find it unbelievable that people still die of hunger. Even in a country like the USA 12.4 million children live in households where people have to skip meals or eat less to make ends meet. That means one in ten households in the U.S. are living with hunger or are at risk of hunger. 35 million people in America are threatened by hunger and 25 million depend on food banks and charities to have enough to eat.

Globally

  • More than 850 million people in the world are hungry.
  • Every five seconds a child dies from malnutrition and hunger-related causes.
  • Poor nutrition and calorie deficiencies cause nearly 1 in 3 people to die prematurely or have disabilities.

Domestic

  • Undernourished people in In India was 14.8% in 2018.
  • Child mortality rate is 4.3%
  • Child stunting is 38.4%

Where Social activists and volunteers of NGOs in cooperation with the agencies of the United Nations are busy hosting 'End Hunger' walks and raising mass awareness about hunger and prodding the government to do all it can, we want to actually look at feeding people through small localized groups. The noon-meal centers are very successful all over India and yet there are many small gaps that we need to fill.

Please register for the End Hunger Groupso that you may form your own small groups in your city or town or village. We will raise awareness so that local people wanting to do puja by feeding people may contact this local group. The group may among themselves organize places where hungry people can be fed.

It could be your home, office or a school in the neighbourhood. It is how you manage the whole affair with your creativity. At the end of the year we will take stock and award the best performing group under various categories because a student group can not probably compete with a school or an NGO. You will get the satisfaction of doing something for Indian and recognition too. Say to your self - 'This is my India and I have to take care of it'.
