Also known as Quilandy, the Koyilandy assembly constituency is poised for a nail-biting finish in the coming 2016 Assembly polls. While Left Democratic Front (LDF) has again fielded its sitting MLA K.Dasan to contest the seat, N. Subramanian of the Congress is in the fray as a nominee of the United Democratic Front. K.Rajineesh Babu is the NDA candidate on behalf of the BJP.

Koyilandy assembly constituency is currently represented by CPI (M)'s K.Dasan who won the seat in 2011 by defeating K.P.Anil Kumar of the Congress by a margin of 4139 votes. In that election while 64374 votes were polled by Dasan, Anil Kumar, now KPCC general secretary, received 60235 votes and was followed by BJP's P. Jayachandran Master who secured 8086 votes.
In 2006 P. Viswan of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI (M)] won the seat by defeating the sitting Congress legislator P. Sankaran who was trounced in the previous assembly election in 2011 by the former.
The congress won the seat first time in 1970 when E. Narayanan Nair emerged victorious from the seat.
Located in the Kozhikode district, Koyilandy is one of the seven assembly segments falling under the Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency. Perambra, Thalassery, Kuthuparamba, Vadakara, Kuttiadi and Nadapuram are the other six constituencies within the Vadakara parliamentary constituency.
Koyilandy municipality is covered by the Koyilandy assembly constituency which also contains the grama panchayats of Payyoli, Moodadi, Thikkodi, Chengottukavu and Chemanchery.
In the 2011 assembly poll to Koyilandy, there was a total electorate of 166632. Out of the total electors, 76746 were males and 89886 were females.
