It would be a bipolar fight between the Congress and the CPM in the forthcoming assembly election to Khargram assembly seat in 2016. Congress’s biggest asset is its organizational strength created by West Bengal Congress president Adhir Chowdhury. Khargram has traditionally been a bastion of the CPM which has won all the elections to the seat since 1977 except in 2011.
TMC and BJP will contest to increase their vote share. It was Khargram assembly constituency from where Congress candidate took a decisive 10,000-plus lead to win the Jangipur Lok Sabha seat in 2012 bye-election. His overall margin was only 2,500.
