In the 2015 bye poll to the Bangaon parliamentary constituency of which Bangaon Dakshin is a part, the Trinamool Congress nominee Mamatabala Thakur had established a lead over her nearest BJP rival Subrata Thakur from the assembly segment. The CPM candidate Debesh Das was relegated to the third place. This sums up the whole political arithmetic for the Bangaon Dakshin assembly constituency where Congress does not stand any chance.
