The BJP had secured 97627 votes in the Shivpur assembly constituency in the last general Lok Sabha polls in 2014, a significant rise from 12468 votes in 2012. In this assembly segment, the party had established a lead of 48611 votes over its nearest rival Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). The upcoming 2017 assembly election to Shivpur will witness a triangular contest among BJP, BSP and Samajwadi Party (SP). The Congress will try its desperate best to make the contest a quadrangular one.
