Though the BJP candidate from the Sambhal Lok Sabha constituency, Satyapal Singh Saini had won the seat in 2014 by a margin of 5,174 by defeating his nearest SP rival, Shafiqur Rahman Barq the former had trailed behind the latter in the Sambhal assembly segment by 39729 votes.
