Salon in Amethi parliamentary constituency is the pocket borough of the Nehru- Gandhi family, the seat went in favour of the Samajwadi Party (SP) in 2012. In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi had secured a lead of 33097 votes over his nearest BJP rival and currently Union Cabinet Minister Smriti Irani in the Salon assembly segment which forms part of the Amethi parliamentary seat
