In the Lok Sabha elections in 2014, Pharenda assembly constituency had given the BJP candidate Pankaj a lead of 27131 votes over his nearest BSP rival Kashi Nath Shukla. However, in the 2015 the BJP lost the bye-election to the seat which was won by the SP first time. The upcoming 2017 assembly election to the seat is all set for tri- cornered contest among the BJP, SP and BSP.
