Though the BJP candidate from the Jhansi Lok Sabha constituency, Uma Bharti had won the seat in 2014 with a margin of 1,90,467 by defeating her nearest SP rival, Chandrapal Singh Yadav, the former had trailed behind the latter in the Meerut Cantonment assembly segment by 801 votes.
