The forthcoming 2017 assembly election to the seat is all set for tri- cornered contest among the BJP, SP and BSP. Though the BJP candidate from the Basti Lok Sabha constituency, Harish Dwivedi had won the parliamentary seat in 2014, he had trailed in the Mahadewa assembly segment by 3769 votes behind the SP candidate.
