Khaga was the only assembly seat in Fatehpur district won by the BJP in 2012. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP candidate from the Fatehpur Lok Sabha constituency, Niranjan Jyoti, had secured a lead of 17775 votes over her nearest BSP rival Afzal Siddiqui in the Khaga assembly segment.
