A stronghold of BSP leader Ram Prasad Chaudhary, in 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Kaptanganj had given a thin lead of 419 votes to the BJP candidate from Basti Lok Sabha seat, Harish Dwivedi, in this assembly segment over his nearest rival who happened to be SP’s Brij Kishor Singh.
