In 2014 parliamentary general elections, the BJP candidate from Hamirpur parliamentary seat, Kunwar Pushpendra Singh Chandel had established a lead of 58022 votes over nearest SP rival Bishambhar Prasad Nishad in the Hamirpur assembly segment. However, after few months the BJP lost the bye-election to the seat in 2014. The upcoming 2017 assembly election to the seat is all set for tri- cornered contest among the BJP, SP and BSP.
