A stronghold of the Samajwadi Party (SP), Bilsi assembly segment had given a lead of 5818 votes to the SP candidate Dharmendra Yadav over his nearest BJP rival Vagish Pathak in the 2014 parliamentary elections. The BJP however substantially improved its performance by securing 66097 votes in the constituency, a significant rise from a mere 4361 votes in 2012. A tough quadrangular contest is in the offing for 2017 assembly election to Bilsi which went in favour of the BSP in the last assembly election in 2012.
