Though in the last assembly election (Bye-election) to the Bhatpar Rani seat held in 2013, the BJP had secured only 5,851 votes, in 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP candidate from the Salempur Lok Sabha constituency, Ravindra Kushawaha, had established a lead of 43765 votes over his nearest SP rival Haribansh Sahai Kushwaha in the Bhatpar Rani assembly segment which forms part of the aforementioned parliamentary constituency.
