In 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP candidate from the Salempur Lok Sabha constituency, Ravindra Kushawaha, had established a lead of 23212 votes over his nearest BSP rival Ravi Shankar Singh in the Belthara Road assembly segment which forms part of the aforementioned parliamentary constituency.
