Though the BJP candidate from the Misrikh Lok Sabha constituency, Anju Bala had won the seat in 2014 with a margin of 87,363 by defeating her nearest rival and then sitting BSP MP Ashok Kumar Rawat, the former had trailed behind the latter in the Balamau assembly segment by 19504 votes. However the BJP polled 63205 votes, a remarkable rise from just 2725 votes the party polled in 2012.
