BSP has nominated Ajit Pratap to contest the Bahraich assembly seat in the upcoming 2017 assembly elections. In the last parliamentary elections in 2014, Bahraich assembly constituency had given the BJP candidate Sadhavi Savitri Bai Phule a lead of 18102 votes over her nearest SP rival Shabbir Ahmad.
