In 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Sahaspur assembly segment had given the BJP candidate from Tehri Garhwal parliamentary seat, Mala Rajya laxmi Shah, a lead of 8898 votes over her nearest Congress rival Saket Bahuguna who received 37175 votes in this assembly segment.

Sahaspur Electoral History and Background

Sahaspur assembly seat is currently held by BJP legislator Sahdev Singh Pundir who won the seat in 2012 by defeating Aryendra Sharma of Congress by a margin of 5490 votes in a bipolar contest. In that election to the seat while 26064 votes were received by Sahdev Singh Pundir, the Congress candidate got 20574 votes. The remaining 21 contestants forfeited their deposits.

In 2007, Rajkumar of BJP had emerged victorious by defeating Congress’s Sadhu Ram who was elected in 2002.

One of the ten assembly constituencies located in the Dehradun district in Uttrakhand, Vikasnagar assembly constituency is formed by the areas covered by KC Jhajra, PCs Dharmawala, Sorna, Sahaspur & Jassowala of Vikasnagar KC of Vikasnagar Tehsil as well as PC Arcedia Grant of Dehrakhas KC of Dehradun Tehsil.

Sahaspur is one of the fourteen assembly segments falling under the Lok Sabha constituency of Tehri Garhwal.

Vikasnagar, Chakrata, Dhanolti, Tehri, Pratapnagar, Ghanshali, Purola, Yamunotri, Gangotri, Raipur, Rajpur Road, Dehradun Cantt.and Mussoorie are the other thirteen assembly constituencies within Tehri Garhwal parliamentary constituency.

Before 2012, Sahaspur was a reserved constituency for scheduled castes.

In the 2012 assembly election to Sahaspur, the constituency had a total of 111900 registered voters. Of them, 59715 were males and 52185 were female voters.
