In 2014 parliamentary general elections, Raipur assembly segment had given the BJP candidate from Tehri Garhwal Lok Sabha seat, Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, a lead of 29354 votes over her nearest Congress rival Saket Bahuguna who received 26032 votes in this assembly segment. .
Presently Raipur is represented in the legislative assembly of Uttrakhand by Congress’s Umesh Sharma Kau who won the seat in 2012 by defeating Trivendra Singh Rawat of BJP by a slender margin of 474 votes in a bipolar contest. In that election to the seat while 29900 votes were received by Umesh Sharma, the BJP candidate got 29426 votes and was followed by BSP’s Ajay Sood who received 5142 votes. Vinod Bharthwal, who entered the fray on behalf of the SP, was relegated to the fourth place with 4128 votes.
Kau has been disqualified by assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal when he revolted against Harish Rawat who won the trust votes after the intervention of the Supreme Court in 2016.
One of the ten assembly constituencies located in the Dehradun district in Uttrakhand, Raipur assembly constituency is formed by the areas covered by PC Aghoiwala of Dehrakhas KC, PCs Gujrara Mansingh, Danda Lakhaund, Kandauli, Dwara, Raipur, Mianwala of Raipur KC, Raipur (CT), Ward Nos. 13, 15, 20, 26, 29, 35, 36, 44 and 46 in Dehradun Municipal Corporation of Dehradun Tehsil.
Raipur is one of the fourteen assembly segments falling under the Lok Sabha constituency of Tehri Garhwal.
Sahaspur, Vikasnagar, Chakrata, Dhanolti, Tehri, Pratapnagar, Ghanshali, Raipur, Yamunotri, Gangotri, Rajpur Road, Dehradun Cantt.and Mussoorie are the other thirteen assembly constituencies within Tehri Garhwal parliamentary constituency.
In the 2012 assembly election to Raipur, a total electorate of 120008 was eligible to exercise their franchise in the assembly segment. Out of the total electors, 64098 were males and 55910 were females.
