In 2014 parliamentary general elections, the BJP candidate from Nainital- Udhamsingh Nagar Lok Sabha seat, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, had established a lead of 11705 votes over his nearest Congress rival K.C.Singh Baba in the Bajpur assembly segment.
Yashpal Arya is the sitting MLA of Bajpur assembly seat which he won in 2012 on behalf of Congress by defeating his nearest BJP rival Rajesh Kumar by a margin of 15131 votes in a bipolar contest. In that election to the seat, while Yashpal Arya polled 38524 votes, the BJP nominee received 23393 votes and was followed by BSP’s Maheelal Gautam who got 13002 votes.
In 2007 Yashpal Arya, currently President of the state Congress, was elected from the erstwhile Mukteshwar assembly constituency.
In 2002 Arvind Pandey of BJP had won the Bazpur seat by defeating Janak Raj Sharma of the Congress.
