In 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Sunam assembly segment had given the AAP candidate from Sangrur parliamentary seat, Bhagwant Mann, a lead of 13432 votes over his nearest BJP backed Akali Dal candidate Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa who received 50745 votes in this assembly segment. The Congress candidate came third with 23408 votes in assembly constituency.
