In 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Shahkot assembly segment had given the Akali Dal, backed by BJP, a lead of 17966 votes over its nearest rival AAP which received 29896 votes in this assembly segment. The Congress was relegated to the third place with 29199 votes in the Shahkot assembly constituency.
