In 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Sahnewal assembly segment had given the BJP backed Akali Dal rival Kulwant Singh a lead of 4568 votes over his nearest Congress rival. The AAP candidate Harinder Singh Khalsa was relegated to the third place.
