In 2014 parliamentary general elections, the AAP candidate from Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha seat, Himmat Singh Shergill, had established a lead of 7273 votes over his nearest Akali Dal nominee Prem Singh Chandumajra in the S.A.S. Nagar assembly segment. The Congress rival Ambika Soni was relegated to the third place.
