In 2014 parliamentary general elections, the Congress candidate from Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha seat, Ambika Soni, had secured votes 39373 to establish a lead of 797 votes over her nearest Akali Dal rival Prem Singh Chandumajra in the Rupnagar assembly segment. The AAP nominee Himmat Singh Shergill came third with 29226 votes.
