In 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Phillaur assembly segment had given the Congress nominee from Jalandhar parliamentary seat a lead of 15787 votes over his nearest AAP rival who received 33213 votes in this assembly segment. The Akali Dal, backed by BJP, managed to bag only 31413 votes to finish third in the Phillaur assembly constituency.
