In 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Patiala Rural assembly segment had given the AAP candidate from Patiala parliamentary seat, Dharam Vira Gandhi, a lead of 13997 votes over his nearest Congress rival Preneet Kaur who received 42290 votes in this assembly segment. The BJP supported Akali Dal nominee Deepinder Singh Dhillon came third with 26030 votes in the assembly constituency.
