In 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Mehal Kalan assembly segment had given the AAP candidate from Sangrur parliamentary seat, Bhagwant Mann , a lead of 38131 votes over his nearest BJP backed Akali Dal candidate Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa who received 29724 votes in this assembly segment. The Congress candidate came third with 11081 votes in assembly constituency.
