In 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Malout assembly segment had given the Congress candidate from Firozpur parliamentary seat, Sunil Jakhar, a lead of 7836 votes over his nearest BJP backed Akali Dal candidate Sher Singh Ghubaya who received 47694 votes in this assembly segment. The AAP candidate Satnam Paul Kamboj came third with 12048 votes in the Malout assembly constituency.
