In 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Malerkotla assembly segment had given the AAP candidate from Sangrur parliamentary seat, Bhagwant Mann , a lead of 30089 votes over his nearest BJP backed Akali Dal candidate Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa who received 27892 votes in this assembly segment. The Congress candidate came third with 19435 votes in assembly constituency.
