In 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Kotkapura assembly segment had given the AAP candidate Prof. Sadhu Singh a lead of 20220 votes over his nearest Congress rival Joginder Singh. BJP backed Akali Dal nominee Paramjit Kaur Gulshan was relegated to the third place.
