In 2014 parliamentary general elections, the Akali Dal candidate from Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha seat, Prem Singh Chandumajra, had secured 50174 votes to establish a lead of 5076 votes over her nearest AAP rival in the Kharar assembly segment. The Congress nominee Ambika Soni was relegated to the third place with 39183 votes.
