In 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Kartarpur assembly segment had given the Congress nominee from Jalandhar parliamentary seat a lead of 12599 votes over his nearest BJP supported Akali Dal rival who received 35962 votes in this assembly segment. The APP nominee managed to bag 21664 votes to finish third in the Kartarpur assembly constituency.
