In 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Kapurthala assembly segment had given the Akali Dal nominee from Khadoor Sahib parliamentary seat a lead of 1876 votes over his nearest Congress rival who received 34279 votes in this assembly segment. The AAP candidate managed to bag 19308 votes to finish third in the Kapurthala assembly constituency.
