Jalalabad is a stronghold of the Akali Dal. In 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, this assembly segment, currently represented by Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, had given the Akali Dal candidate from Firozpur parliamentary seat, Sher Singh Ghubaya, a lead of 32888 votes over his nearest Congress rival Sunil Jakhar who received 49060 votes in this assembly segment. The AAP candidate Satnam Paul Kamboj came third with votes in the Jalalabad assembly constituency.
