In 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, Gill assembly segment had given the AAP candidate Harvinder Singh Phoolka a lead of 1089 votes over his nearest Congress rival Ravneet Singh Bittu. BJP backed Akali Dal rival Manpreet Singh Ayali was relegated to the third place.
