In 2014 parliamentary general elections, the Congress candidate from Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha seat, Ambika Soni, had secured 35749 votes to establish a lead of 1200 votes over her nearest Akali Dal rival Prem Singh Chandumajra in the Garhshankar assembly segment. The AAP nominee Himmat Singh Shergill came third with 25064 votes.
