In 2014 parliamentary general elections, the AAP candidate from Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha seat, Himmat Singh Shergill, had established a lead of 7340 votes over his nearest Congress rival Ambika Soni in the Chamkaur Sahib assembly segment. The Akali Dal nominee Prem Singh Chandumajra was relegated to the third place.
