Batala assembly seat is poised for keen contest among BJP-Akali combine, Congress and AAP in the coming 2017 assembly polls. In 2014 Lok Sabha general elections, the assembly segment had given the BJP candidate from Gurdaspur parliamentary seat, Vinod Khanna, a lead of 6803 votes over his nearest Congress rival Partap Singh Bajwa who received 38760 votes in this assembly segment. The AAP candidate came third with 31135 votes in the Batala assembly constituency.
